Peoria County to Hold Tire Collections
Mapleton - Mapleton is hosting Peoria County's first of four fall tire collections this Saturday:
September 25, 2010
9:00am - Noon
Hollis Township Building
6430 W. Wheeler Rd, Mapleton
Residents living in the 61547 zip code are encouraged to recycle used or discarded tires found on roadways, in alleys, or in vacant lots by bringing them to the township building on Saturday. Participating residents must show proof of residency by presenting either a driver's license or a current utility bill. Peoria County has partnered with Peoria Disposal Company, Hollis Township, and the Village of Mapleton to ensure a successful tire collection event this weekend.
Local tire collection events are a great way for residents to clean up their neighborhoods by removing unwanted debris. Up to 5 tires will be accepted from each resident; a maximum number of 600 tires will be accepted at this event. Only car and light truck tires are acceptable; tractor, off-road, heavy equipment and semi-truck tires will not be accepted. Tires can either be on or off the rim. After collection, tires will be transported to a processing facility for recycling.
Peoria County will also host three additional community tire collections this year; all events are 9:00 a.m. - noon. Residents eligible to participate in the following events will be notified via postcard:
October 2: Residents of 61607 November 6: Residents of West Peoria
Bartonville Public Works Building West Peoria City Hall

Peoria County's Recycling and Resource Conservation Department has collected over 5900 tires at its 15 events since the program's implementation five years ago. For more information on the tire collections, call (309) 681-2550.
