Dear Merle,
I knew Dan long before he was our State Treasurer or a state-wide political force. We went to college together & belonged to the same fraternity. I was his campaign treasurer when he was Student Body President at Illinois State University and I am still his campaign treasurer today.
Illinois is a fiscal mess. The state needed someone with business & legislative experience as State Treasurer. That is, in part, why the electorate overwhelmingly elected Dan Rutherford. He received more votes than the winner of the US Senate and Governor's races.
Dan works hard. In his first year as State Treasurer he has implemented several changes to help bring fiscal responsibility back to Illinois government. In addition, he asked that his budget be reduced to the level it was ten years ago. This will not cure Illinois' financial problems, but his intent is to lead by example. He believes doing things the right way is the only way. His expectations of performance are high. As Treasurer, he will not be an obstructionist nor will he be shy about speaking out.
As an attorney & CPA, I prepare Dan's personal taxes & audit his campaign committee's disclosure reports. For him, it is black or white; it must be right & never wrong. There is no gray or maybe.
Dan has small town values with extensive global experience. His honesty and business experience make Dan the right person to lead in our state.
